Vegan cookies
Vegan? Vegan-ish? Vegan Curious? Plant-based? It’s a good time to be a vegan or to try being vegan.
Everyone has their reason – concern for the environment, concern for animal welfare, taste preference, health benefits, etc. Whatever the reason, if you are considering dipping your toe in vegan waters, now IS a good time.

    Why now?

    1. It’s January and each January a not for profit called “Veganuary” is at its most active and resources are abundant for those who want to try. (Plus the month is almost half over so you really only have to commit to two weeks!)
    2. Vegan and plant-based diets are on the rise. The Economist reports that 25% of 25 – 34-year-olds embrace a plant-based lifestyle. I could give you a statistic about “self-reporting vegans”, but you might sniff at a mere 6% of the population. Consider that that is an increase from 1% and you’ve got something to talk about.
    3. Because of reason #2, resources have never been more plentiful which is good news for those first-timers.
    4. Back to #2. This means that the demand for vegan and plant-based options is climbing and that translates into a marketplace brimming with REALLY GOOD vegan/plant-based products. (Even “Big Meat” Tyson is getting into the action with its stake in Beyond Meat).
    5. Lots of celebrities and athletes are “coming out” and revealing themselves to be vegan – and, well, you know, if the beautiful are into it, it must be good ;)

If the reasons above didn’t sway you, think about this –

Being vegan is certainly more environmentally friendly. According to the vegan calculator (http://thevegancalculator.com/), each day of being vegan saves 1100 gallons of water, 30 square feet of forest, 1 animal, 40 pounds of grain, and 20 pounds of carbon dioxide.
